Biography
Peter Simon leads Spencer Stuart's Financial Services Practice in North America and is a member of the firm’s Board Practice. Based in Toronto, his area of focus is senior-level search assignments — in Canada, the U.S. and abroad — for pension and sovereign wealth funds, asset managers, banks, insurance companies and alternative investment managers, where he brings broad expertise across line-of-business and functional roles, including portfolio management, risk management, strategy, finance, and sales and marketing.
In addition to his core executive search work, Peter has been a long-time adviser to boards of directors on their overall composition, capabilities and succession planning.
A former investment banker and “tier one” management consultant, Peter has more than 20 years of global financial services expertise. Specifically:
Peter formerly was a partner with McKinsey & Company in Canada and the U.S., with additional leadership experiences in Amsterdam and Hong Kong. At McKinsey, he advised financial institutions and industrial clients on strategy, financial performance, organization and corporate finance issues.
Peter left the firm to co-found FlatIron Information Services, a corporate performance data and services company in Toronto that had numerous leading Canadian and U.S. corporations, financial institutions and private equity firms as clients.
Prior to McKinsey, Peter worked in both Toronto and New York with The First Boston Corporation, where he held roles in the firm’s investment banking and M&A practices.
Peter holds an M.B.A. from The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, with high distinction, and an Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in business, also with distinction, from the University of Western Ontario.
