Biography
Ian Johnston is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ London office and a member of Heidrick Consulting’s global leadership team. He has more than 25 years experience working with CEOs and senior leaders to support the transformation of their organisations with a focus on purpose, growth mindset, and vitality. Previously based in Singapore, Ian led and built Heidrick Consulting in APAC.
Well known for enabling CEOs to lead with vitality, vision, and clear purpose, Ian supports clients to accelerate their performance at the leader, team, and organization levels. This underpins client strategies for profitable growth with a stakeholder focus. It also helps Heidrick & Struggles deliver superior value to clients through the combined impact of our advisory services.
Ian has worked closely with CEOs, senior executives, and their teams across a broad range of industry sectors. He has worked in 63 countries in the last 20 years, helping clients to shape consistent cultures at both the global and local levels. Ian brings to his work an eclectic mix of business experience, an adventurer's spirit, a coaching and learning mindset, and a fascination with the scale and complexity of multinational companies.
Ian has significant experience strengthening leadership, organizational performance, and culture in large international businesses. He has been instrumental in improving the spirit and performance of numerous clients. He is a frequent speaker at executive conferences and events.
Ian has been at the forefront of the development of experiential learning techniques for senior leaders and executives over 30 years. Prior to joining Senn Delaney, a Heidrick & Struggles’ company, Ian had more than 20 years of diverse business experience. He taught at Templeton College, Oxford. He also founded and led a successful UK consulting practice, devising and leading large-scale leadership and culture-shaping engagements.
