Biography
Stephen Zhang is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai offices and a member of the global Private Equity and Financial Services practices. He has more than 25 years of experience in corporate, professional services, investment banking, and executive search and leadership advisory services in the U.S., Greater China, and across Asia Pacific. Stephen works closely with the board and chief executives of multinational and Chinese companies, as well as investment funds and their portfolios, advising on leadership, talent, organizational strategy, and delivering executive search solutions in support of clients’ growth, transformation, and value creation initiatives. Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Stephen was head of the financial services and private equity practices for Greater China at another global executive search firm. Before that, he was a principal consultant at a top international executive search firm, where he led executive search and leadership advisory engagements across financial services, private equity, and the internet and digital sectors. Stephen has completed hundreds of C-suite and board assignments in banking, asset management, insurance, fintech, internet, and technology as well as filling investment partner and other senior roles at a wide range of private equity and venture capital funds, C-level, and board placements at their portfolios in the TMT, consumer, healthcare, and industrial sectors. Before executive search, Stephen was an executive director at China International Capital Corporation (CICC) in Beijing and Hong Kong and an equity analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein in New York. Earlier in his career, he was a wireline engineer and operations manager with Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Australia, Indonesia, and China.
