Biography
Carrie Mandel is an attorney and a member of Spencer Stuart’s Legal, Compliance & Regulatory Practice in North America and leads initiatives for the practice in Canada. Carrie has more than 19 years of executive search experience and leads general counsel, chief compliance officer and other senior in-house legal, compliance and executive searches across multiple industries, with a particular focus on the financial services sector.
Carrie has broad functional search experience, helping to identify chief operating officers and executive directors, chief marketing officers, chief financial officers, information technology leaders, and human resources and professional development executives for law firms and professional services firms.
Carrie joined Spencer Stuart from another international executive search firm, where she spent four years as a partner and led the legal and compliance practice for North America. She began her career in search with a boutique firm specializing in legal recruiting. From there, she spent five years as an executive search consultant in the New York office for one of the world’s largest executive search firms.
Before entering the search industry, she was a practicing litigator in New York with the law firms of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler.
Carrie is a frequent speaker about issues relating to diversity and women in leadership. She has also written numerous articles on talent management in law and professional services firms, and co-authored the book Breaking Through: Tales from the Top Canadian Women General Counsel. Carrie earned her law degree from Harvard Law School and her undergraduate degree in comparative literature from Princeton University.
