Biography
Bruce Williamson leads Spencer Stuart’s Australian operations along with the firm’s Energy and Metals & Mining practices in the Asia Pacific region. He is also a member of the global Industrial, Professional & IT Services and Infrastructure practices. Bruce has worked on numerous high-level assignments spanning chairman, CEO and C-suite roles as well as operational roles for asset intensive businesses. Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Bruce worked for more than 20 years as a management consultant in wide-ranging areas such as strategy, transformational business improvement, large-scale cost reduction, capital efficiency, supply chain optimisation and strategic procurement. He has worked extensively in Australasia, Asia and Europe across a range of asset-intensive sectors, including mining and resources, energy, utilities, manufacturing, fast-moving consumer goods, retail, airlines and automotive. Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Bruce was the national lead partner heading Deloitte’s operations consulting business and a member of Deloitte’s consulting executive team in Australia. Bruce has led a number of turnaround, productivity improvement and capital optimisation projects that have delivered cumulative benefits in excess of $2.5 billion for a vast array of organisations, including BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Xstrata/Glencore, Anglo American, Anglo Gold Ashanti, Aurora Energy, ENERGEX, Woodside, SP Ausnet, CS Energy and ETSA. Previously, Bruce was a founding partner and director of Strategic Corporate Services, an Australian operations and supply chain consulting firm. He was also a member of the leadership team of Partners in Performance International (PIP) and spent six years as a principal with A.T. Kearney. Before pursuing a career in management consulting, Bruce was a project civil engineer attaining chartered status and was admitted as a member of the Institute of Engineers Australia. His engineering career culminated at Acer Consultants (now LSE-listed Hyder Consultants), where he led the development and detailed design of major state-of-the-art components for the green field development of some of the UK’s largest water treatment plants, including Ogston, Mitcheldean and Melbourne. Bruce has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with honours from the University of Melbourne and an M.B.A. from the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Business School and New York University’s Stern School of Business.
