Fernando Carneiro leads Spencer Stuart’s Board and CEO practices in Latin America and Brazil. He has served on the firm’s worldwide board of directors for six years and was previously the head of the Latin American region. Fernando specializes in CEO succession projects and board assignments, having recruited multiple CEOs and other C-level executives for a variety of industries, including financial services, private equity, industrial, consumer, retail, technology, telecom, and healthcare. He has conducted several board searches and board assessment projects for Brazilian and multinational companies. A recognized expert in corporate governance, Fernando served as a board member for three different companies and as an executive director for the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban). Fernando served as the head of Spencer Stuart’s Financial Services and Private Equity practices for Latin America for almost 10 years. He was the country manager of our firm in Brazil for seven years, and head of Latin America for the subsequent two years, before being elected to our board. Prior to joining Spencer Stuart in 2003, Fernando worked for two years as the head of the financial services practice in Brazil for another international search firm. He gained direct industry experience during his work with Brazilian and international financial services companies (Citibank, Banco BMC and Caixa), leading different areas including retail banking, cards, Internet banking, corporate banking, insurance distribution, and products and marketing. He also worked for Booz & Co. and Arthur D. Little, where he focused on strategy, corporate finance and organizational design. Fernando earned a bachelor's degree in production engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and a post-graduate degree in business administration from COPPEAD/Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He is fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish.
