Tom Yu is a co-head of Spencer Stuart’s Greater China region, the office manager of the Shanghai office and a member of the firm’s global Industrial Practice. He has led the firm’s Asia Pacific Industrial Practice for 10 years and has worked on numerous high level assignments including Board, CEO, C-level, and Asia Pacific / China leadership roles. In addition, Tom has more than 20 years of experience in general management, technology, and operations leadership within the consumer, industrial and technology sectors. Prior to joining the firm, Tom served as chairman and general manager for Maytag Asia, where he was responsible for overall business management, operations, new business development, OEM supplier management, operations and center of excellence establishment for Maytag’s major appliance, small appliance, and vending machine business. He also served as Maytag vice president responsible for Hoover Company’s global R&D, engineering, operations, and finishing goods sourcing as well as Asian business development. Prior to joining Maytag in 2001, Tom spent 15 years at General Electric Lighting in USA, serving in several operation leadership roles in automotive and general lighting business with an increasing scope of responsibility. He led GE Lighting’s North America Automotive Engineering Operations for 5 years. Tom earned his BS degree in Chemical Engineering from National Taiwan University, PhD/MS degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester and M.B.A. from Cleveland State University. He was in the Advisory Board of Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC), Advisory Board of Appliance Magazine in USA, and Advisory Board of Chemical Engineering Department of University of Akron. He had also been the President of Alumni Association of National Taiwan University - Ohio Chapter from 1997 to 2001.
